How long does it take?

Let’s clarify first:
Businesses don’t get UKAS accreditation—certification bodies do.
As a business, you’re aiming for UKAS-accredited ISO certification, which means you’ll be certified by a body that is accredited by UKAS.

Now, if you're a business wanting to get certified to ISO 9001, 14001, 27001, etc. by a UKAS-accredited body, the question becomes:

How long does it take to get ISO certified (via a UKAS-accredited body)?

Short answer: 3 to 12 months, on average

Depends on:

  1. Your current setup
  • Got solid processes and documentation already? You’re ahead of the game.
  • Starting from scratch? It’ll take longer to build everything up.
  1. The ISO standard(s) you’re going for
  • ISO 9001 (quality) is usually quicker.
  • ISO 27001 (info security) can be more involved, especially if you’re dealing with sensitive data.
  1. Your business size and complexity
  • A small office-based team might get certified in 3–4 months.
  • A large manufacturing business with multiple sites and departments might take 9–12 months or more.
  1. Resources and commitment
  • Got a dedicated team or consultant helping? You’ll fly through it quicker.
  • Doing it in bits alongside other projects? Expect a slower pace.
